The Manchester United summer transfer budget has been revealed by The Athletic. According to Laurie Whitwell, United’s possible spend over the next few months could amount to £120 million, with Erik ten Hag set to be backed this transfer window. Fans will hope for something of a cultural revolution at Old Trafford after previous failings of throwing money at big names to no avail, and the arrival of Ten Hag seems the perfect time for this to occur.

What Impact Could the Budget Have on Summer Dealings

Manchester United are set for a busy summer of transfer activity as Erik ten Hag looks to rebuild the squad.

In the centre of midfield, both Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are set to depart the club as their contracts run out, while others like Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani will also leave for free at the end of their deals. Equally, the Red Devils are looking to offload multiple players, with Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, and Axel Tuanzabe among the many players of whom they are willing to let go this summer.

The £120 million being a base budget, this could be pushed significantly higher by player sales.

Frenkie de Jong is one of the midfielders United are looking at this summer. He would be available for a reduced price of £80 million with Barcelona needing to raise funds to comply with financial fair play rules. This amount of money, though, would still eat up a significant proportion of Ten Hag’s available budget at the Theatre of Dreams, and he will have to think long and hard about whether he is willing to spend so much on one player. The signing of De Jong would be a massive deal for the Red Devils regardless of price as he would fix their midfield issue that has existed for many years, and he could be joined by the likes of Jurrien Timber in moving to Manchester this summer.
