Manchester City Women Midfielder

Manchester City Women midfielder Georgia Stanway has agreed a switch to German giants Bayern Munich, Sky Sports’ Anton Toloui reports.

The 23-year-old has spent her entire senior career with Manchester City after joining from the youth setup at Blackburn Rovers.

Manchester City Women Midfielder Georgia Stanway Agrees Bayern Munich Deal

Two Year Deal Agreed

Stanway’s contract at Manchester City expired this summer and she has subsequently agreed a two-year deal with Bayern Munich, who finished second to Wolfsburg in Frauen-Bundesliga in 2021/22.

She has been with City since 2015, lifting a Women’s Super League title, three League Cup’s and three FA Cup’s.

City had a disappointing start to the season in 2021/22, costing them any chance in the WSL title race. Though, managed to lift the League Cup, snatch third-place from Manchester United and push Chelsea to extra-time in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Stanway scored eight goals in 22 league games with one assist in 2021/22. She has plenty of experience for her age, including over 30 England games, scoring eight goals for the Lionesses. The 23-year-old was also nominated for the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year back in 2017.

Bayern were four points behind Wolfsburg for Frauen-Bundesliga this season and will look to bridge that gap. They last won the league title in 2020/21.

Stanway will be the only English player in the current squad, unless Bayern make further additions from the country.

The deal will be announced later in the week.

Euros Focus for Stanway This Summer

The Women’s Euros takes place this summer and Stanway’s focus will be on featuring heavily for England before her move to Germany. Sarina Wiegman’s side are among the favourites to win the competition, which they also host between 6 and 31 July 2022. England get the competition underway v Austria at Old Trafford.
