Jesse Lingard Departure Likely with Italian Clubs Watching

Jesse Lingard departure

A Jesse Lingard departure from Manchester United this coming summer is looking more and more likely. United are bringing in a new manager, and he will begin to change the club in his own ways.

Lingard, however, is drawing interest from Italian teams. Most notably, the big teams monitoring his situation are AC Milan and Juventus, according to Rob Dawson of ESPN. Lingard has spent the majority of his career at Old Trafford, but his contract comes to an end at the conclusion of this season. At 29-years-old, Lingard has plenty left to contribute to a new club and perhaps raise eyebrows before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Fit with Italian Giants

Lingard can play as an attacking midfielder or on the wings. Milan can certainly use some help in those positions. The left-wing is taken by Rafael Leao and that will not change. There could very well be an opening as an attacking midfielder, however. That position is currently manned by Brahim Diaz, but the Spaniard is struggling with form. Lingard’s creativity and experience are welcomed traits. He may also find time on the right-wing as Alexis Saelemaekers is not a long-term starter.

Milan need help when it comes to creativity and finishing. The club is currently on track to win the Scudetto but can still use help. Lingard’s wealth of Premier League experience may be just what Milan and manager Stefano Pioli want and need.

Juventus are struggling this season, at least compared to prior seasons. To make matters worse, star forward Paulo Dybala is departing the club.

Juventus does have a new star attacking player in Dusan Vlahovic, but will need help creating scoring opportunities. Normally, Federico Chiesa would be the primary creator, but he’s recovering from a major injury. Lingard can help now.

At the end of the day, Lingard is a short-term fix for both these clubs. With that being said, he can certainly help. Furthermore, more playing time allows Lingard to boost his chances to make the English squad for the upcoming World Cup.
