Villarreal Looking to Upset the Odds Again

Unai Emery’s side head to Anfield in lethal form. Following their aggregate win over the Bavarians, Villarreal have picked up successive victories over Getafe and Valencia respectively in La Liga.

The Yellow Submarine are unbeaten in five matches in all competitions following successive league losses against Cadiz and Levante, both of which came away from home.

In the Champions League, however, Villarreal have knocked out some of Europe’s heavyweights. On top of Bayern Munich, the Spanish club have also beaten Juventus with a 4-1 victory over the two legs.

There is no doubt that Liverpool pose a sterner threat with Jurgen Klopp’s side being touted as one of the favourites to win the competition as they look to achieve an unprecedented quadruple.

Team News

Emery has changed his defence in recent weeks but there could be a return to right-back for former Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, but he faces competition with another former Spurs man in Juan Foyth. Pau Torres, who has been linked with a move to England, is likely to remain at the heart of the Villarreal defence.

In midfield, Étienne Capoue should start alongside Dani Parejo while Spurs loanee Giovani Lo Celso should also feature.

Up top, Arnaut Danjuma netted twice against Valencia and Emery could start the former Bournemouth man alongside Paco Alcacer, with Gerard Moreno an injury doubt. Former Reds defender Alberto Morenp is also sidelined.
