Chelsea’s Midfield Could Have Some Major Changes in the Coming Seasons

The midfield options at Chelsea make them one of the best in the Premier League this season, but it could undergo some major changes this summer.

It boasts players such as N’golo Kante, Mason Mount and Jorginho. However, a couple of Thomas Tuchel’s midfield options could be leaving the club as their contracts are nearing their end. This means there could be a major shift in Chelsea’s midfield if renewals aren’t agreed upon in time.

Chelsea’s Midfield could have some Major Changes in the Coming Seasons

Several Players Likely to Be On Their Way Out

Both Jorginho and Kante will be seeing their contracts come to an end next summer. Contract talks between the two midfielders are yet to be in motion as Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that both players have been waiting to extend their contracts “since last May”.

With both players now over 30 years of age, it seems Thomas Tuchel could be planning to rebuild Chelsea’s midfield around younger talents. It has been reported that Juventus have been monitoring Jorginho extensively over recent months.

Tuchel Wants a Younger Midfield

It has been reported by Liam Twomey of The Athletic that there are “signs that Tuchel is looking towards the evolution of his midfield”.

Players supposedly on Tuchel’s radar, according to Twomey, include Declan Rice – who the Chelsea boss “loves” – as well as Conor Gallagher. Meanwhile, Monaco’s prized young asset Aurelien Tchouameni remains a focus of the club’s scouting team.

Gallagher has spent the majority of his time as a Chelsea player out on loan to several clubs including Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion and most recently Crystal Palace. He has been a diamond in Patrick Vieira’s midfield and was a big absence for the Eagles when they took on Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals.

It’s unsurprising, therefore, that Tuchel wants him to become a regular starter for Chelsea next season.

Similarly, Declan Rice also shares history with Chelsea. The English midfielder left the Chelsea youth team to join West Ham United. He gradually rised up the rankings and has now established himself as one of England’s best midfielders at the age of 23.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Chelsea do offer new deals to Kante and/or Jorginho this season, if they don’t then Chelsea fans can expect some big changes in midfield for next season.
