Major Manchester United Manager Update Revealed as the Club Make Their Final Decision

Manchester United manager update

A Manchester United manager update has finally been revealed after months of speculation. One of the biggest jobs in world football has been up for grabs since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last November, and whilst Ralf Rangnick is of course currently in charge, the hot seat still remains vacant for the future. After much speculation and back-and-forth, various sources have reported that the club have decided on Erik ten Hag as the man to bring back the glory days. As per James Ducker, it is said that the Dutchman will be fully backed when it comes to transfers if he does take charge at Old Trafford.

Who Will the Club Target After the Latest Manchester United Manager Update

Whilst it is being reported that Ten Hag will be able to bring in the players he wants, “even if they miss out on Champions League revenues”, the club themselves are highlighting some targets. This would then be presented to the man departing Ajax once he arrived in Manchester. Due to various issues on and off of the field, one position in need of addressing is said to be a striker, with Harry Kane being one of the names banded about as is often the case.

There are a few issues in the squad for the Red Devils, but the most talked-about one has to be in defensive midfield. Paul Pogba doesn’t necessarily play that role but he may be departing the Theatre of Dreams at the end of this season anyway and the duo of Fred and Scott McTominay often comes under fire while neither is suited to playing as a lone holding midfielder. The long talked about Declan Rice seems a clear candidate for Ten Hag and United but he will have most of Europe’s elite on red alert and West Ham United are hardly a team desperate to sell. David Moyes has recently quoted prices in excess of £100m, all the way up to £150m, so it would cost a pretty penny if the Manchester giants wanted to acquire the England star.

Ducker says that “Re Kane or Rice, they are some of the costliest, ambitious deals to do and just to do one likely to be very difficult to progress / would require major encouragement in some form.” Manchester United may be a historic club but Kane and Rice have the world at their feet in many ways. While the aforementioned duo are fairly obvious targets for United, this “could be a market where surprise opportunities present themselves.”

Could Ten Hag bring anyone with him?

Both members of the Ajax hierarchy and key players could be departing the Dutch giants this summer. The likes of Sebastian Haller and Ryan Gravenberch for example could both make big moves to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively ready to swoop in.

Another name that is attracting interest from elsewhere has been talked about as a potential United target is Brazilian winger Antony.

Donny van de Beek is a fascinating player in this scenario as the midfielder thrived under Ten Hag in one of those many amazing Ajax teams. He has had an indifferent Premier League career- flattering to deceive under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the point where he is now on loan at relegation-threatened Everton under the tutelage of Frank Lampard. One would expect Ten Hag to be the perfect man to get the best out of the Dutchman.

It remains to be seen who has caught the club’s eye beyond the likes of Kane and Rice. “Shortlists have been drawn up to present to the new manager and he’ll have his input”. On top of this, a striker and two midfielders are said to be the priority this summer, presenting van de Beek a chance at redemption along with new faces coming in from outside.
