AC Milan Not Concerned With Premier League Rumours as Rafael Leao Renewal Nears

The Future of the Portuguese Youngster

Leao has been an effective player throughout his time at Milan and in his lone season with Lille. This season, however, he’s broken onto the scene as a legitimate star.

He started off the season very well but has been even better since the start of 2022. Leao is consistently Milan’s top attacking threat, whether it comes to scoring goals or creating chances. In the past, Leao mostly featured off the bench. Ante Rebic, who remains a good option, has been through a number of injuries this season. This opened up a hole for Leao to take over the left-wing position, and he has completely made it his own.

In 21 Serie A matches, Leao has seven goals and four assists to his name. These statistics may not jump off the page as overly impressive, but there’s reasons for this. First off, Leao has a number of substitute appearances. Secondly, it’s not just the statistics he has to his name, but the way he’s involved in nearly every single goal Milan scores while he’s on the pitch. When he’s not curling it into the back of the net or whipping in perfect crosses, Leao is creating movement with his pace and skills, allowing players such as Olivier Giroud to find space and the back of the net.

Leao is only 22-years-old, so it comes as no surprise that he’s a hot commodity. Milan is pushing to get a contract renewal done, as they know Leao is the cornerstone of the attack.
