Player Wants Spanish Move
Tottenham and Ligue 1 side Lyon had already reportedly agreed a loan deal for Lo Celso but the player decided that was not the move he wanted to make in this transfer window. Lyon were keen on a deal to replace the outgoing Bruno Guimaraes who has joined the newly rich Newcastle United.
Lo Celso has struggled with injuries since joining Spurs and when provided with chances has not made any impact and at times has appeared lightweight physically for the Premier League despite his undoubted talent. Under Antonio Conte, he has slipped further down the pecking order at Spurs and wants regular first team football.
L’Equipe reported the deal between Spurs and Lyon, but did state that the final decision would rest with the player himself and France is now not his intended destination.
It became clear that the Argentinian midfielder was no longer part of Conte’s plans when he was left out of the match day squad to face London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League and he then took to social media to state he was not injured.
Lo Celso has experience already of playing in La Liga having played for Real Betis for two years. His understanding and knowledge of that league has been a key influence in his desire to return to Spain.
He joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window of 2019 before making his move to the capital permanent the following year.
A loan deal is now just a formality and whether he will ever return and make his mark in the Premier League remains to be seen.
