Yet Another Development as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Transfer Situation Worsens for Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer situation

The Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer situation doesn’t appear to be getting any easier for Arsenal. According to Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr have decided to pull out of negotiations for the Gabon international. They had made a final offer on Saturday night but withdrew it after their deadline was not met.

What’s Happening in the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Transfer Situation?

For a variety of reasons, Arsenal want to sell Aubameyang.

In the 2019/20 season, he proved just how clinical a finisher he could be, scoring 22 Premier League goals and being beaten to the top scorer award only by Jamie Vardy who had netted 23 times. Following this impressive campaign, Aubameyang signed a new big-money, three-year contract worth £55 million with a base salary of £250,000 per week.

Since then, however, the Arsenal talisman has struggled. He has only scored 14 league goals following that season, and his overall performances have been equally disappointing. To add to this, he has become something of a disciplinary liability for Arsenal, and this, coupled with the rapid development of some of Arsenal’s youngsters, has finally led to his omission from the squad at the Emirates Stadium.

Considering his hefty salary, the Gunners were less than keen to keep him around if he wasn’t playing a vital part in the team, and thus have looked to move him on during this January transfer window. The likes of Barcelona and Juventus have registered interest in the 32-year-old, however, his wages may well become an issue. For the Spanish giants, it would be imperative that they offload Ousmane Dembele before they can sign Aubameyang.

Al Nassr had made a concrete offer, though. This included matching his Arsenal salary and a break clause after 12 months that would allow him to return to European football. They set a deadline for 00:00 GMT, but not having managed to reach an agreement before then, they have pulled out.

It remains to be seen whether Aubameyang will be able to earn a move to another side before Monday’s transfer deadline.
