Former Chelsea Prospect Joins Atalanta From Sassuolo

Atalanta

In a transfer that many expected to be done much sooner, Jeremie Boga has officially made the move to Atalanta from fellow Serie A side Sassuolo. Fabrizio Romano first claimed that the deal was done on Christmas Day in 2021 tweeting out:

“Jeremie Boga from Sassuolo to Atalanta, confirmed and here we go! Done deal and agreement reached today between clubs. Final fee will be around €22m plus add ons.”

Jeremie Boga Atalanta Move Finally Complete

Former Chelsea Prospect

It has taken just under a month but the move has now been confirmed by Atalanta, with the €22 million fee originally cited still the suspected cost for the 25-year-old. Boga originally gained attention for his stellar play as part of Chelsea’s championship-winning youth side, he showed talent playing just behind the striker centrally and on either flank. Boga was so impressive at youth level that he was offered, and accepted, a professional deal, but like many Chelsea prospects, he failed to break into the first team.

Successful Loan Spells & Sassuolo Move

Boga’s failure to break into the first team was no fault of his own as he impressed in three loan speels, first with Rennes in Ligue 1, then with Granada in Spain, and finally, he made 31 appearances in a loan spell with Birmingham City in the Championship.

In 2018 Jeremie Boga made the move to Serie A side Sassuolo where he has had an impressive stint, starting 102 games and grabbing 18 goals as the side exceeded expectations.

Now he heads to Atalanta where he will likely slot in behind Luis Muriel, alongside another former Chelsea prospect in Mario Pasalic. Atalanta currently sit in fourth place in Serie A and aren’t lacking for goalscoring power, but the addition of someone with the creative abilities and eye for goal of Jeremie Boga will help their charge to secure at least a spot in the Champions League.
