Ralf Rangnick Discusses Paul Pogba Future as the Midfielder Returns to Training

Paul Pogba future

Ralf Rangnick has given his thoughts on Paul Pogba’s future with Manchester United after the Frenchman returned to training today for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury in November.

Pogba could be in contention to return in just a few weeks’ time, with the Red Devils’ FA Cup fourth-round tie with Middlesborough a possible stage for the midfielder’s reinstatement in the side at Old Trafford.

Pogba Struggling to Make an Impact After Fantastic Start to the Season

Paul Pogba started the 2021/22 campaign with a bang, as did United, but things have quickly derailed from there.

The Frenchman provided four assists in the Red Devils’ opening game of the Premier League season, an occasion on which Leeds United were demolished 5-1 at Old Trafford. This was a point at which United fans were hopeful of what was to come in the next nine months.

Despite this, since the Red Devils beat Newcastle United 4-1 in September, a game that marked Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the club, Pogba has failed to register a single direct goal involvement. This can be attributed both to his injury and to the poor form that befell his side not long after this match.

The Frenchman also got sent off just 15 minutes after his half-time introduction when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United side were embarrassed by arch-rivals Liverpool in October.

What Did Rangnick Say

The United boss started by describing Pogba as an “extraordinary player”, but recognised the need for him to remain “fully focused”.

Pogba’s attitude has come under criticism many times during his stay at the Theatre of Dreams, especially when his agent, Mino Raiola, makes controversial comments in the media.

Rangnick followed this by revealing that he had held a lengthy meeting with United’s number six after training on Monday.

“I had a long conversation with him for more than an hour after the training session, a very good conversation. He committed himself until the end of the season.

“He explained to me that he wants to be the best possible Paul Pogba that he can be”.

With Pogba’s contract expiring this summer, it remains to be seen whether he will remain at Old Trafford or seek his long-rumoured move abroad.
