Jose Mourinho Not Leaving Roma Amid Everton Speculation

Everton Searching for a Permanent Replacement for Rafael Benitez

After a string of poor results, Everton sacked manager Rafael Benitez on Sunday. Many fans had been unhappy with his appointment from the very beginning due to his strong connection with arch-rivals Liverpool, and a union doomed from the start ended with a dismal defeat to Norwich City last weekend.

While there has been much speculation as to who could next take the helm at Goodison Park, an interim boss has been put in place while the club prioritise long-term solutions, and his face is rather familiar. For the second time, Duncan Ferguson has been put in temporary charge of Everton, the team for whom he played between 2000 and 2006, as well as during a brief loan spell in 1994.

The hierarchy in Merseyside will not be looking to keep Ferguson in charge for a particularly long time though, and have already lined up many potential replacements for Benitez.

One pursuit has already failed for the Toffees, however, as reported top managerial target and former boss at Goodison Park Roberto Martinez will not be allowed by the Belgian FA to take on a club role while maintaining his position as head coach of the national team.

There are plenty of other names under consideration, though, with former Everton man Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard both having been offered interviews.

Mourinho was thought to be another name on the Blues’ list, with owner Farhad Moshiri a reported admirer of the Portuguese. While many considered his position in Rome to be insecure, Romano’s has confirmed that the board have no plans to let him go, neither does he himself intend to leave.
