Claudio Ranieri Believes Watford Will Stay Up

Belief

Watford head into a three game period that could go a long way to deciding their fate in the Premier League as they look to avoid relegation. Those games are against Newcastle United, Burnley and bottom club Norwich City. The club are sitting in 17th position in the league and despite a 4-1 win over Manchester United in November, results have failed to improve and they need a change of form sooner rather than later. Claudio Ranieri though is as ice cool as he alway is and believes his team have what it takes to avoid the drop;

“When I say I believe in my team, I saw in the training sessions, they work so hard, and if you continue – with luck – to fight, to believe in yourself, sooner or later you will win. That is important, that is what my experience tells me.”

As a Premier League winning manager, Ranieri knows the league well but keeping Watford up may prove to be a bigger test than the sensational title win with Leicester City in 2016.

Poor Form

Watford’s owners are not known for their patience with managers and Xisco Munoz only lasted until October before being sacked and replaced with Italian Ranieri. The form though has continued to be poor and ten defeats out of twelve matches is relegation form that needs to abate to avoid relegation. Ranieri is fully aware that change is needed;

“I believe in this team and I’m sure at the end we will be safe. We have to change position. It’s not possible to continue this way.”

Transfers

Ranieri has been quick to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window bringing in midfielder Edo Kayembe as well as defenders Hassane Kamara from Nice and Samir from Udinese.

The new players will need to hit the ground running as defeat to Newcastle on Saturday 15th January would drop Watford into the bottom three.
