Anthony Martial wants to leave Manchester United in January, with La Liga side Sevilla among the preferred destinations for the France international according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

France Forward Wants Increased Game Time Elsewhere

It is thought that Martial’s primary motive for a transfer away from Old Trafford is over the lack of game time he is being afforded at present. This season, the striker has made only 10 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.

Competition is fierce among the forward positions in Ralf Ragnick’s Manchester United squad. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood all appear to be ahead of the Frenchman in the interim manager’s pecking order so far this campaign.

Prior to Ragnick’s arrival, Martial had lost his place in United’s first-choice line-up under previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having flattered to deceive over the course of the 2020/21 season despite an impressive 23-goal haul in 2019/20.

Sevilla Move an Attractive Prospect for Martial

If Martial is able to force a move away from Old Trafford next month, then Sevilla is the player’s preferred destination. Julen Lopetegui’s side sit second in the Spanish top-flight, and are nine points ahead of defending champions Atletico Madrid.

Ralf Ragnick has spoken of the prospect of Martial leaving the club in the upcoming transfer window, but was unimpressed to have heard the comments made by the player’s agent, Philippe Lamboley. Instead, the German has invited the player to discuss his wishes in private ahead of a possible exit.

Ragnick told the media: “I don’t communicate with agents via the media and press. The player hasn’t spoken with me or us about it.

“To be honest, what his agent says via the media is not that much of interest to me.”
