Gavi Meet Xavi

For the fans who may have been living under a rock, who is Gavi? Well, Marca are already proclaiming him as a “world-class prodigy” and Barcelona legend Xavi has already spoken highly of the player.

Gavi is a 17-year-old midfielder who has already won four caps for Spain. And he’s swiftly becoming a Barcelona regular, having only missed two La Liga matches this season. He has three assists and one goal in the league so far, having just scored a vital goal in the 3-2 victory against Elche.

He arrived at Barcelona from Real Betis, age 11, where he first attracted attention from scouts with a crazy 95 goal haul.

Since then he has developed his game, finally breaking through this season.

His latest performance against Elche won him major plaudits from boss Xavi: “The game he played is spectacular,”

Xavi continued: “Because of his ambition and personality. Having him is a spectacle: his personality, what he generates, the goal, his assist. He is the future of the club.”

Barcelona need a new star to turn towards, sitting seventh in La Liga, 16 points behind rival Real Madrid. Gavi is already putting in shifts for the first team, with his whole career stretching ahead of him. Getting him signed up for another five years at the club could well be vital for Barcelona’s future.
