FA Cup Second Round Draw: St Albans Make Short Trip to Boreham Wood

FA Cup

The surprise winners from the FA Cup first round, St Albans City, have been rewarded with a second-round tie away at fellow non-league side Boreham Wood.

The Saints beat League Two leaders Forest Green Rovers on Sunday evening to reach the second round for the first time in 25 years and will now make the nine-mile journey south for their next test.

Elsewhere, Leyton Orient, who are in the second round for the first time since 2013/14, will host fellow League Two side Tranmere Rovers, while Buxton’s reward for their upset against York City is a home tie against League One outfit Morecambe.

Big Guns Waiting for First Round Replays

A number of the big sides in the competition at this point are not guaranteed of their passages into the next round.

Wigan Athletic were held to a goalless draw at home by National League side Solihull Moors, meaning the highest-ranked side in the draw will have to go to a replay on November 16.

Sheffield Wednesday, too, were held by League One rivals Plymouth Argyle, and Bolton Wanderers will head to Stockport County after they played out a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

In fact, only eight sides from League One, the highest league currently in the competition, are guaranteed a place in the second round currently.
