Serge Aurier Would Consider Arsenal Move

Serge Aurier

According to Sky Sports, former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier wouldn’t be against a move to Arsenal and would, in fact, consider it if an offer came in. Terminating his contract in the final hour of the transfer window, the Frenchman was left without a club at the worst time possible. As a free agent, he is still able to complete a move, but being suddenly launched into the market wouldn’t have been ideal.

Having just signed Takehiro Timiyasu, who mainly operates as a right-back, the question needs to be asked as to whether Arsenal actually need Serge Aurier. It’s always nice to have backup options, yes, but not an overload. Mikel Arteta, following Tomiyasu’s arrival, now has Cedric Soares and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who he has promised game time to, waiting in the wings. Adding Aurier would leave the Spaniard with an unnecessary selection headache.

Frenchman Wants England Stay

Based in England since the summer of 2017, Aurier is reportedly keen to stay put in the Premier League. So far, the only team mentioned has been Spurs’ north London rivals, Arsenal, however, making for a difficult situation to negotiate. Whether the move comes into fruition or not, remains to be seen, but it would certainly cause quite the stir if it did.

Arsenal have already had a dramatic season for all of the wrong reasons, losing all three of their opening Premier League games against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, without scoring a single goal.

Next up after the international break is a game against fellow early-strugglers Norwich City. If Arsenal fail to pick up the three points against the Canaries, then Mikel Arteta’s job will be more at risk than ever before at the Emirates. When considering the money thrown the squad’s way this summer, the manager simply cannot afford to fall short again.
