Queens Park Rangers Interested in Signing Watford Striker Andre Gray

Andre Gray

Queens Park Rangers are looking to sign out-of-favour Watford striker Andre Gray, according to the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath. The 30-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Hornets this season and could be on his way out of the club for the right price.

QPR Eyeing Andre Gray

Gray Fallen Down the Pecking Order

QPR are keen to sign Andre Gray to bolster their attack. The Watford striker has found himself down the pecking order following the arrival of Emmanuel Dennis, Joshua King, Ashley Fletcher and the returning Cucho Hernandez. Gray has been on the periphery of the starting lineup for a while now and started just 14 matches despite making 30 appearances in the Championship.

Gray’s future at Vicarage Road was always in doubt before the start of this season. The striker has not really blossomed at Vicarage road following his move from Burnley back in 2017. The Shrewsbury Town graduate caught the eye of Watford after two good seasons with the Clarets.

The striker had a decent debut season, scoring five goals in 33 matches. The following season was Gray’s best at Watford as he scored nine goals in 34 matches and helped the Hornets to their second FA Cup final. The striker’s form nose-dived following that season. After Troy Deeney’s missed start to the 2019/20 season, Gray was expected to lead the line. The Jamaican international struggled in front of goal, scoring just twice, as Watford suffered relegation from the Premier League.

It was the same story for the striker in the Championship last season. Despite moving down to the Championship, Gray struggled to rediscover his form. The striker scored just five goals in 31 matches and often found himself making appearances off the bench. The 30-year-old has found his place further in doubt after Watford invested heavily in improving their attacking options.

High Turnaround of Players

Watford have been very busy this summer. The Hornets have arguably seen the biggest turnaround in players this summer with around 14 first-team squad members moving out of the club and 11 joining the club. Andre Gray could be the 15th first-team player to move out of the club if QPR can striker a deal with the Hornets.
