Final Pre-Season Preparations

Before the draw against Cambridge, Oxford had to play one final pre-season friendly. While it also ended in a 1-1 draw against Barnet, it was important for several reasons.

Firstly, there was a return for the final few players that had to previously self-isolate. While the line-up wasn’t reported, these players still needed to build up their fitness. The other positive was that new signing Gavin Whyte got himself on the scoresheet on what was his first start to returning to the club.

Karl Robinson Plays Down Taylor Moore Rumours

Some reports earlier this week suggested that 24-year-old Bristol City defender Taylor Moore was set to join the U’s in a deal worth £500,000.

While the Oxford manager is still keen to bring another defender to the club, he dismissed the link with the Robins man.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, he said: “I’ve not had a conversation with him.

“We’re happy with what we’ve got right now, we need a left-back as cover.

“That’s something we’re still being aggressive with, over the course of the next few games we’ll see.

“We’ve not spoken to anybody since we did the business last week.”

Oxford Begin 2021/22 Season With Draw Against Cambridge

Oxford United kicked off their League One campaign with a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Cambridge United.

Summer signing Steve Seddon opened the scoring for the visitors but Mark Sykes conceded a penalty in the second half which was converted by Joe Ironside.

The U’s had the better chances and more possession but were unable to turn their dominance into a win.
