Time at Barcelona Slowly Coming to an End for Ilaix Moriba

Laporte Takes Firm Stance against Moriba

Laporta has opened the door for a potential exit for 18-year-old midfielder Ilaix Moriba. The midfielder is one of the biggest prospects in La Masia, but with just a year remaining in his contract, the youngster is reportedly attracting interest from outside Spain.

Barcelona think that interest from several Premier League sides is the reason for Moriba’s higher wage demands.

Laporta said: “We cannot allow him to be promoted [to the first-team] and then leave. We won’t accept that with any player. If he wants to go and it’s because he has other options, he can leave the club.”

“If you do not want to renew, we have other solutions. What we don’t want are players made at La Masia who don’t want to renew. The club is above all.”

Update Regarding Lionel Messi Contract

Romano has also provided an update on the Lionel Messi situation in Barcelona. The Argentine’s new contract is going well but still has a few stumbling blocks. The winger has already expressed his desire to stay with Barcelona.

Laporta said: “We are working on Messi deal. This hasn’t been completely resolved yet, but it is progressing well. He wants to stay.”
