Son Heung-Min Signs New Deal at Tottenham Hotspur

Son Heung-min

After lengthy talks that began back in December 2020 a new deal for Son Heung-min has now been agreed meaning the player extends his stay at Tottenham Hotspur.

New Deal for Son Heung-Min

Important Deal for Spurs

With the talk still refusing to go away regarding Harry Kane and a possible move away from the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the summer transfer window, the tying of Son to a new deal is an important move by Spurs as he is arguably as important to the club as Kane, and not just in terms 0f his goals on the pitch, but the value he adds through shirt and other merchandise sales, especially from his native South Korea.

Spurs set up a new South Korean Twitter page in March 2021 and Son is the face of that page. He is seen as being a superstar in his home country and the revenue it drives is something that should help Tottenham in their search for more income to put back into a squad rebuild that is so badly needed.

Strong Performance

Despite Tottenham labouring to a seventh placed Premier League finish at the end of the 2020/21 season, Son still had a positive impact on the team, scoring 23 goals and delivering ten assists in all competitions. And without his clinical partnership with Kane, it could have been a different story for the club in a season where they flattered to deceive.

Son was already under contract to Tottenham until the end of the 2022/23 season and this is partly why talks have taken some time to get over the line as it wasn’t seen as being an urgent matter, but the situation surrounding Kane has accelerated the process and the new deal will see him remain at the club until 2025- much to the delight of Spurs fans across the world.
