Crystal Palace transfer news

Crystal Palace are carrying on with refreshing their squad, as new targets have emerged for the South Londoners. Gallagher Interest Renewed

Crystal Palace were interested in signing Gallagher last summer, before he ended up at newly promoted West Bromwich Albion. The loan spell has further enhanced an already stellar reputation Gallagher has built in his short career.

The 21-year old midfielder is a product of Chelsea’s academy. He won Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year in 2018/19, and finished the season with an appearance on the bench as Chelsea beat Arsenal to lift the Europa League title.

He spent 2019/20 on loan at Charlton, and then at Swansea in the Championship,  playing in their promotion play-off games. He impressed last season, shining despite West Bromwich Albion’s relegation. New Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira is overseeing the squad rebuild, and Gallagher has emerged as a target.

They will try to sign him on a permanent transfer, with a £15 million move mooted, but Chelsea may decide against allowing that. Manager Thomas Tuchel is unsure about Gallagher’s role in 2021/22, and will decide over pre-season.

This move may take some time, and Crystal Palace may have to be content with a loan.

Lookman Could Also Join

Ademola Lookman could play in the Premier League again in 2021/22. The 23-year old joined Everton in January 2017. After making very few appearances that season, he joined RB Leipzig on loan in the Bundesliga in January 2018. He would return to play a greater part in Everton’s 2018/19 season, but returned to Leipzig on a permanent basis in the summer. He failed to make a significant impact, however, and joined promoted Fulham last season on loan.

Lookman was among the more impressive players in the Premier League despite Fulham’s struggles. With Andros Townsend seemingly close to leaving, Crystal Palace have turned their attention to Lookman. The winger is an exciting prospect.

After bit-part roles, he finally had a full season of consistent football under his belt, scoring four goals in 34 Premier League appearances in 2020/21. According to BILD, Leipzig will demand about £15 million for the winger. Having signed Michael Olise from Reading, Lookman may be their next piece to the puzzle.

Crystal Palace Transfer News: Manchester City Youngsters on the List

Patrick Vieira has singled out two of his former club’s academy graduates. Vieira played for Manchester City, and managed their academy side for four years. He now has his eyes on a couple of youngsters, Morgan Rogers and Claudio Gomes. Rogers, 18, is primarily a winger, but can also play in midfield. He spent last season on loan at League One side Lincoln. He scored six goals and provided four assists, helping Lincoln reach the promotion play-off final where they lost to Blackpool.

Gomes, 20, is a defensive midfielder who joined Manchester City’s academy in 2018 from PSG, and spent 2019/20 season on loan with Jong PSV in the Dutch second division. Vieira is hoping that his good connection with Manchester City will help Crystal Palace get their targets.

Guehi Set for Medical

To top the Crystal Palace transfer news off, Chelsea defender Marc Guehi is set to have a medical ahead of signing for the club, according to David Ornstein of the Athletic. The central defender impressed many last season whilst on loan at Swansea City. The 21-year-old will reportedly put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Selhurst Park with Chelsea having a sell-on clause and matching rights on future moves.

The transfer is a clear indication that Palace want to bring the age of the squad down to a suitable number as they build for both the present and future.
