Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of RB Salzburg midfielder Enock Mwepu. The 23-year-old Zambian international has joined the Seagulls on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee from the Austrian champions.

Potter ‘Delighted’ to Land Midfielder

Speaking to the club website, Brighton head coach Graham Potter said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome Enock to the club and are looking forward to working with him.

“He has a great deal of experience for somebody of his age, including Champions League and international football.

“He’s primarily a central midfielder, although he is capable of playing in numerous positions, is open-minded, adaptable and very keen to learn and develop.

“He will add competition to our existing options in that area of the squad going into the new season.”

Reports of Mwepu’s interest to Brighton emerged earlier this week. It is not yet known whether he has been brought in as a replacement for Yves Bissouma, who has been linked with numerous clubs this summer ahead of a move away.

If Brighton are able to keep him, though, they will have an excellent midfield base of Bissouma and Mwepu.

Career So Far

Mwepu started his career in his native Zambia with NAPSA Starts before moving to Kafue Celtic a year later and eventually to Austria with Salzburg.

Over his four years at the Red Bull Arena, he made 81 league appearances, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further nine.

He also played in every one of Salzburg’s Champions League group games last season, having made his debut in that competition in a 4-3 defeat against Liverpool the year before.

Mwepu was on the scoresheet in this year’s OFB-Cup final, where his side won 3-0 against LASK.
