N'Golo Kante

Chelsea are set to offer N’Golo Kante a new long-term contract after the 30-year-old’s resurgence last season helped the Blues lift a second Champions League trophy.

Integral to Champions League Success

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Chelsea hierarchy feel that the Frenchman should be rewarded with a new deal for his excellent performances in central midfield under Thomas Tuchel. Thanks to a strong relationship between player and club, there is “no rush” to complete a deal, as Kante is currently on international duty with France at Euro 2020.

While his current deal is set to expire in 2o23, it is clear to see why Chelsea want to keep Kante at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future. Struggling at times under previous manager Frank Lampard due to form and fitness issues, the Frenchman enjoyed a remarkable renaissance in West London following the arrival of Thomas Tuchel.

Returning to a more familiar role at the base of the Blues’ midfield under Tuchel, Kante dominated the middle of the park. As a result, this allowed the exciting young talents of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz to dictate play further forward.

After such an impressive end to last season for Chelsea, they will be hoping to make a sustained challenge for the Premier League title when the new season gets underway on Saturday, 14 August.

Focus on France

Before that though, Kante will currently be focused on helping France emulate the sides of 1998 and 2000, when Les Bleus became the first country to simultaneously hold the title of World and European champions. Despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Hungary, the 2018 World Cup winners are still one of the favourites to win Euro 2020, with Kante a pivotal presence in Didier Deschamps’ side.

Victory at the European Championship would see the midfielder add to an already glittering resume, that features a World Cup, two Premier League titles, a Champions League and Europa League winners’ medal, as well as an FA Cup win in 2018.

Given all his achievements at club and international level, Chelsea fans will welcome the news of a new contract for N’Golo Kante, who continues to show why he one of Europe’s star midfielders.
