Bernardo Silva Among Several Players Who Could Be Sold By Manchester City
Pep Guardiola Plans to Move Multiple Players On
Bernardo Silva could be set for a shock move from the Etihad after playing a key role in Manchester City’s Premier League triumph. The club want to refresh its squad to prepare for a new period of dominance in England.
The midfielder scored three times and created 11 goals throughout the season, but has been selected as part of a clear-out that could involve the likes of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.
Since signing for Manchester City in 2017, Silva has won three Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups and an FA Cup. Silva has been regularly used throughout his four seasons in Manchester and is now attracting interest from clubs in Spain, Italy, and France ahead of the summer transfer window.
Before the Champions League final, Guardiola spoke to Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport and spoke about the importance of changing the squad ahead of next season to maintain City’s high-performance levels. He said: “You have to shake [the squad]. You have to move. With the same guys [winning] is almost impossible. We will change. After defeats and wins, you change. At the beginning you accept things, but when you win you accept less. You have to [change the squad].”
According to this report, the club’s hierarchy agree with Guardiola and want to replace departing players like Sergio Aguero with high-profile signings like Harry Kane or Erling Braut Haaland. The board believes they need to sell players before making a marquee signing such as Jack Grealish, who the club is interested in signing this summer.
