Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Villarreal are seeking to clinch a deal for Schalke’s Amin Harit. The Spanish side are looking to strengthen their midfield for next season following their Europa League success where they beat Manchester United on penalties in the final.

In Romano’s recent tweet, the reporter has said that talks between the two clubs over the signing of Harit are ongoing.

This is not the first time that have shown interest in the player as they tried to sign him at the eleventh hour of the winter transfer window, but the Moroccan remained at Schalke despite showing his desire to join the Spanish club.

Schalke’s Relegation Has Increased Harit’s Desire to Leave

Romano also reports that Schalke’s relegation to the Bundesliga 2 has increased the player’s desire to move on, despite him having a contract with the German side until 2024. He is considered to be a rising star in Germany and what has been seen as a rapid decline of Schalke means his departure is looking more and more likely.

A move to Villarreal would give Harit the chance to play Champions League football rather than battling away in the second tier of German football.

Harit joined Schalke in 2017 for €8 million, with Sport Bild reporting a fee for the player now rumoured to be in the region of €15 million.

The German FA have been unhappy with Schalke’s economic performance, meaning selling their best players is looking like a necessity to stave off points penalties and/or financial penalties that could be levied at the club. The club have until September 15th to respond to what has been put against them.
