Wolves’ New Manager Set for Rebuild After Neves Sale

It has been widely reported that former Benfica boss Bruno Lage is set to take over at Molineux this summer after the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo. If Lage is to be appointed, he may have to immediately search for a replacement for Ruben Neves.

Twenty-four-year-old Neves has been a revelation for Wolves since signing for £15.8 million in 2017. He has made 176 appearances for the club and formed a phenomenal partnership with fellow Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho, who signed a year later.

According to the report, Wolves want to use the potential revenue of Neves’ sale to fund a rebuild for the squad this summer. Wolves finished the season in 13th after back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the two seasons before.

Neves is not the only top player expected to depart this summer. The club expects several sales and incomings once a new manager has been appointed. Rui Patricio and Adama Traore were named as other players who could leave this summer.

Neves’ Fee Makes Him an Unmissable Opportunity

Several clubs should be interested in signing the holding midfielder once his price tag is known. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs a holding midfielder and has been rumoured to want to sign Declan Rice for an enormous fee. With Neves available for what would likely be less than half of Rice’s cost, signing Neves seems like a no-brainer for Manchester United.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur simply need more quality in their teams and will struggle to attract players at Europe’s biggest clubs after finishing seventh and eighth in the Premier League respectively. Both clubs will be without Champions League or Europa League revenue next season. Neves would be a shrewd signing for either club.

Many European super clubs are struggling for funds – demonstrated by the desperate attempt of the European Super League. Neves is a player who can’t be ignored by any club in Europe seeking a midfielder at £35 million.
