Career so Far

Tymoteusz Puchacz has become Union Berlin’s latest signing. The 22-year-old left-back, who can also cover as a left or right-sided winger, joins the Bundesliga outfit from Europa League side, Lech Poznan.

Puchacz, who has represented Poland at all youth levels from U16 to U20, came through the ranks with The Railwayman but spent time on loan at Zagłębie Sosnowiec and GKS Katowice. He returned to Poznan and has since managed 82 appearances, where he has scored seven goals and added 12 assists.

Puchacz played in all four of this season’s Europa League qualifying matches, scoring once, and turned out in all six of their Europa League group matches.

What Was Said

Speaking to the club’s official website, Puchacz said: “The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world, and it’s a pleasure and an honour to play there.

“I am very happy that I can show what I can there in the new season. I’m looking forward to my new teammates and to being able to work with Urs Fischer and his team.

“And of course I can hardly wait to experience the special atmosphere in the famous Alte Försterei live, when hopefully as many spectators as possible will soon be able to return to the stadium.”

Oliver Ruhnert, Managing Director of Professional Football, added: “Tymoteusz has been a regular at Lech Poznan for the past two years and has already proven his qualities internationally.

“With him, we have a player capable of development who can make our team even better in our third year in the Bundesliga.

“Tymoteusz Puchacz was our absolute dream solution for a commitment in this position, so we are glad that he has chosen Union.”

Transfer Fee, Summer Signings and Potential Departures

According to sport.interia.pl, as cited by Bild, Union Berlin have paid a substantial figure to bring Tymoteusz Puchacz to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. They report that the figure could be as high as €3.5 million, which would be €1.5 million more than the club’s record signing, Sheraldo Becker, who joined in 2019.

With left-back Christopher Lenz leaving in the summer, the arrival of Puchacz would be a direct replacement for the 26-year-old.

Puchacz follows new arrivals Rani Khedira and Paul Jaeckel to the club, while Keita Endo has also extended his stay in the German capital.
