Manchester United Women Deliver Injury News on Leah Galton

Leah Galton Withdrawn During Manchester Derby

Galton had to be substituted during the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City earlier this month, which came shortly after the news was confirmed of her new deal at the club.

A statement on the club website read: “The club can confirm that Leah Galton has suffered ankle ligament damage and will spend the next couple of months working closely with the medical team on her rehabilitation.

“Everyone at the club wishes Leah a speedy recovery.”

Galton Had Been Enjoying an Impressive Season

Galton had been enjoying an impressive 2020/21 campaign after scoring six goals in 18 appearances across all competitions.

She was also named the Women’s Super League Player of the Month for December, following a string of fine displays against Aston Villa, Reading and Bristol City.

The 26-year-old arrived at United ahead of their inaugural season in July 2018. She had previously played for Bayern Munich and Sky Blue FC in the National Women’s Soccer League.

She also played at college level in the States for Hofstra Pride.

Meanwhile, the forward has represented England at youth-team level, from the U15s up to the U23s.

Aston Villa up Next for the Red Devils

The Red Devils currently sit third in the table with 32 points from 15 games – six adrift of league leaders Chelsea.

Casey Stoney’s side headed into the latest international break with back-to-back defeats against Reading and Man City respectively.

United will be aiming to bounce back when they host a relegation-threatened Aston Villa side on Sunday, March 7 at Leigh Sports Village.

Villa will play one game before facing United, as they host Arsenal in a rearranged Women’s Super League match on Sunday, February 28.
