Everton Goalkeeper Robin Olsen Hoping to Turn Loan Move Into Permanent Switch

Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen is looking to stay at Goodison Park permanently. The 31-year-old is currently on loan from Serie A side Roma.

Robin Olsen Hoping to Join Everton Permanently

Olsen is Toffee’s Number Two

Having joined in the summer on a season-long loan from Roma, Robin Olsen has become a reliable number two for England and Everton number one, Jordan Pickford.

The 31-year-old may have only made seven appearances for Everton this season but has performed reasonably well in the absence of Pickford.

What Was Said

As cited by The Athletic’s Paddy Boyland, Olsen said: “We want to stay, but it is not me who decides. I can only cross my fingers & see what the club says.”

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: “He’s a good signing, an experienced goalkeeper. We are happy with his performances.

“He made a mistake because he slipped (in the game against Manchester United) but he has done really well. We have confidence and trust in him because he’s a good goalkeeper.”

As a result, Everton have opened discussions about turning Olsen’s loan move permanent. “There’s a plan with everything and they told me about it when I signed,” Olsen told Swedish media.

“My only focus is to go down to the training ground, give my everything, improve and compete for a spot.

“Jordan is really good. He’s the No 1 in England. Knowing that makes me improve. You help each other out. The competition is only a good thing.

“I want to play. I’ve spoken to Ancelotti. I’m going to keep it to myself but there’s a great plan. Now it’s just up to me to deliver.”

Olsen Before Everton Move

Despite making 35 appearances for Roma, Olsen had fallen down the pecking order and found himself as the third choice. A loan move to Cagliari materialised before a switch to Everton, with the goalkeeper bringing a wealth of experience to Goodison Park with him.

Despite that, he has integrated to life in the north-west quickly. His performance haven’t been perfect, but he has provided stability to a role that Ancelotti has cause for concern.
