Brentford have confirmed that they have signed Winston Reid on loan from West Ham United until the end of the season.

Experienced Defender to Help With Issues in Defence

Reid joins the West London club to help cure their current issues with injuries in defence.

The Bees are currently without Swedish defender Pontus Jansson after he was ruled out with an ankle injury last month. Furthermore, they are also missing Luka Racic and Charlie Goode.

As a result, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has looked to help that issue by adding the experienced New Zealander to his ranks.

Reid has struggled for appearances during his last two seasons with the Hammers. His last appearance came at the end of the 2017/18 season, while he spent the 2020 campaign on loan with Sporting Kansas City.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the official Brentford website, Frank said: “We are very happy to welcome Winston to Brentford.

“We are very pleased that he wanted to come to help the team for the rest of the season. With his quality, personality and experience, we know he will do a great job for us over the next few months.

“We felt we needed to bring an extra centre-back in to the club. Pontus Jansson will be out for at least six weeks and Luke Racic came back from his loan at Northampton Town with a back injury, so they are not available.

“Our medical staff are also helping Charlie Goode with his ongoing medical issue, so he has not been able to be part of our squad. We were a little short at centre back and Winston will be able to challenge for those places.”

Reid trained with his new side before the announcement, and could be in line to make his first appearance on Wednesday against Bristol City.
