Lee Gregory

Derby County have completed the loan signing of Lee Gregory from Stoke City on a deal that runs until the end of the season.

He Arrives at Derby County With Plenty of Experience

Gregory arrives at Derby with plenty of experience, having scored 76 goals in 238 appearances in a five-year spell at Millwall before moving to Stoke City in July 2019.

He has since scored seven goals in 50 games for the Potters and will bolster Wayne Rooney’s forward options at Pride Park.

Upon his arrival, he told Rams TV: “I found out last night, so it was quick and when I knew Derby were interested I wanted to come straight away.

“It is a big club – a great club, great manager, a great set of lads. I am buzzing to be here.”

The 32-year-old has played as a centre forward for the majority of his career but has also previously been deployed in a second striker role and as both a left and right-winger.

His progress has been halted this season by a groin injury, with his last appearance coming in a goalless draw Sheffield Wednesday on November 28.

Derby County Fans Will Hope He Hits the Ground Running

But he is now reportedly ready to feature once again, and Rams fans will hope he hits the ground running quickly after struggling to score goals this campaign.

The East Midlands side have netted just 17 goals in 26 Championship games to date, with only Sheffield Wednesday (16), scoring fewer goals this term.

Rooney will hope Gregory eases the burden on the likes of top scorer Colin Kazim-Richards, who has a tally of five goals to date.

Derby County’s Second Deadline Day Loan Signing

Gregory’s arrival is Derby’s second loan signing on deadline day following Teden Mengi’s temporary switch from Manchester United.

The Rams are next in action away at Rotherham United on February 2 and will be targeting a fourth consecutive league victory to increase the five-point gap between themselves and the bottom three.
