Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Refuses to Rule Out Centre-Back Transfer

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has refused to rule out signing a centre-back before the close of the transfer window, claiming the club ‘will try’ to sign one, according to reports.

Liverpool Could Still Sign Centre-Back This Transfer Window

Injury Crisis

The Reds are currently enduring somewhat of an injury crisis in the central defensive area so far this season and could do with some reinforcements this transfer window.

With Virgil van Dijk sidelined along with Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho, it has meant that they are extremely short on options in that area they’d had to play midfielder Jordan Henderson there in recent games.

With Liverpool fans crying out for reinforcements, Jurgen Klopp has claimed that the club shall try and sign one if they can but so far there is not a lot to say on it.

‘Not Sure There is an £80 million Centre-Back Available’

Speaking about the current need for a centre-back signing, Klopp said: “We will try. But there’s nothing to say until something happens.

”I am not sure there is an £80 million centre-back available at the moment or that teams would sell. We need to find the right player and it has to suit our financial situation.”

Klopp, as previously mentioned, has so far been resigned to playing either player out of position and shoehorning them into the central defensive area or picking on younger youth team players, who have a lot less experience.

Liverpool Could Bring in Centre-Back the Before End of the Transfer Window

With the Reds having won only one of their last five Premier League games, that could arguably be put down to a lack of defensive options. With Henderson shoved into the centre back role, it has meant he is unable to fulfil his usual midfield position and has ultimately played a role in why Liverpool are suffering in the league.

It does though appear that Liverpool could be keeping an eye out for a centre-back over the next few days to try and help ease their injury woes.
