Chelsea Targeting Record-Breaking Erling Haaland Deal

Despite all the money Chelsea spent in the summer, they still have unfinished business with one particular young star: Erling Haaland.

With the club are languishing in eighth place and having sacked Frank Lampard earlier this week, owner Roman Abramovich will look to give new manager Thomas Tuchel the Borussia Dortmund sensation in the summer, according to Sky Sports.

Chelsea Targeting Record-Breaking Erling Haaland Deal

Goalscoring Machine

For footballers, and particularly strikers, Haaland has the greatest gift of them all: he just always scores goals. Since his move to Dortmund, the 20-year-old has scored 37 goals in 37 matches. For someone so young, that is an incredible record.

Regardless of the way his team plays, when given chances, Haaland takes them. Although Dortmund is a great team, you get the feeling he has a bit too much potential to be there for the long haul, and he’ll certainly be looking to take that next step soon.

Haaland has Ballon d’Or written all over him, and whichever club ends up with him will be counting their lucky stars. He’s lightning-quick, tall, strong, an excellent finisher, and already has that striker’s instinct for goal.

Some of the world’s greatest clubs, like Real Madrid and Barcelona, have also been linked with him, and they both see him as the man to turn their fortunes around. However, Chelsea are also flush with cash, and in this coronavirus-affected market, few clubs have fared better than the Blues.

Abramovich has already shown he can go toe-to-toe with the very best in the financial world of football, and if he can do it again for Erling Haaland, it’d be a massive coup for Tuchel and Chelsea.

Potential for Greatness at Chelsea

The sight of seeing Haaland and Timo Werner line up together week in, week out must be a very tantalising prospect for Chelsea fans. Werner may be in a rut, but his quality is clear, and with that frontline, they’d fancy themselves against any defence in the world.

Werner is undeniably better when he plays with a strike partner, preferably a big target man. While Haaland is far from just a target man, he possesses the ability to hold the ball up very well. However, he can also spin in behind, turn and beat opponents himself, or shoot accurately from distance. When a striker can do all that well, he’s virtually unstoppable.

While his future is unclear at the moment, one thing is: wherever Haaland plays, he’ll be scoring a boatload of goals. Chelsea fans will be desperately hoping that Stamford Bridge is that place. And if reports are to be believed, their wishes may very well come true.
