Arsenal Interest in Ødegaard

After Ødegaard told Real Madrid of his desire to leave the club, Arsenal’s interest in the midfielder was instant.

The Gunners made an approach and the midfielder agreed to a move just two days later. Now, the 22-year-old arrives at the Emirates Stadium and will look to impress during a fourth loan spell away from the Bernabeu of his career.

The creative midfielder will be a welcome boost for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal who, despite showing signs of improvement in recent weeks, have had a disappointing campaign.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club’s official website, Arteta said: “It’s great that we’ve secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season.

“Martin is of course a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while. Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we’re all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May.”

As expected, Ødegaard attracted plenty of interest after declaring his desire to depart. Real Sociedad, who the 22-year-old spent last season on loan with, were keen for a return.

Leicester City also reportedly showed interest in the Madrid man. However, despite enquiring about the availability of Ødegaard, the Foxes didn’t pursue their interest in the 22-year-old.

Ødegaard Impressed During Previous Loan Spells

Despite only making 11 senior appearances for Real Madrid since his arrival back in 2015, the Norway international has impressed while away on loan.

Ødegaard scored five times and added eights assists from 43 appearances during his 18-month tenure at Heerenveen. He then joined Eredivisie rivals Vitesse and scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists from just 39 games.

The Norwegian’s next loan spell would be in La Liga at Real Sociedad and he continued to impress, scoring seven times and adding nine assists from 36 games.
