Brighton & Hove Albion Confirm Bernardo Loan Move to RB Salzburg

Bernardo Salzburg

Brighton & Hove Albion have officially confirmed the loan departure of Brazilian defender Bernardo to RB Salzburg. The defender returns to the Austrian club after leaving just four years ago.

The news comes with Bernardo struggling for sufficient game time having made just seven appearances in all competitions this season. In the prime age of his career, too, at 25, Graham Potter admitted that the defender left in search of more minutes.

The Brighton manager told the club website: “Bernardo is at a stage in his career where he wants to be playing regular football.

“This move should give him the opportunity to do that. We wish him well for the rest of the season and we will watch his progress with interest.”

Bernardo Completes RB Salzburg Loan Move

Christian Walton Could Also Depart

Bernardo may not be the only Brighton man set to depart- following his move to Salzburg- with Christian Walton also liked with a move away. The likes of Luton Town– where Walton spent some time on loan- are reportedly interested.

Luton manager Nathan Jones, when asked about the 25-year-old said: “We really like Christian, I know Christian really well obviously from my time at Brighton and from his time here.

“He’s a Brighton goalkeeper and he is someone that will always get linked with us because of the relationship we have with him.

“We care about him, we want him to do well but if I ever had the chance to re-sign Christian further down the line or whatever then I would take it.

“We’re very strong here in terms of that (goalkeepers) but he’s someone we care about, someone we really like, someone within the Luton family, his closeness with Glen Rea obviously but he’s at Brighton, a good club.

“We love Christian, we care about him and we only hope that good things happen, you never know, good things may happen to him here.

“We are always interested in good players, he’s someone we had here and did fantastically well for us, the loan was cut short which proved costly for us in terms of things.

“You never know, if we had a clean slate and I didn’t have any goalkeepers here for example then Christian would be very high on my list because one, his goalkeeping ability, his prowess and then also we have had him here.

“He will always get linked, we always want him to do well and if I had an unlimited budget and unlimited number then he would be one we’re interested in.

“There is no point commenting on that now because the scope is different.”
