Richards Has a Bright Future

Twenty-two-year-old Omar Richards is out of contract at the Madejski Stadium in the summer and the Bundesliga champions are in advanced talks over a switch to Germany.

The Championship club haven’t offered the left-back a new deal, allowing Bayern to sign the defender on a free transfer in the summer.

Richards made his way through Fulham’s academy and joined the Royals in 2016. He has made 20 appearances in the Championship this season, taking his tally to 83 for the club.

If the move goes through, Richards will join fellow English youngster Jamal Musiala, who joined Bayern from Chelsea in 2019.

Richards made his one and only England U21 appearance in 2019 during a 2-2 draw against Slovenia.

Bayern Looking for Youthful Rebuild

Bayern aren’t in desperate need for reinforcements but look to have taken interest from their Germain rivals, Borussia Dortmund, in recruiting young English talent.

At the moment, Hans-Dieter Flick has David Alaba, Alphonso Davies and Lucas Hernandez for competition. However, the former looks likely to depart the Allianz Arena in the summer.

Davies has come on leaps and bounds and was a critical part of the team as Bayern won the treble last season. Hernandez, who only arrived from Atletico Madrid in 2019, remains the club-record signing, but he can cover centrally, too.

Despite the competition, Richards fits the bill of what Bayern are looking for in a full-back. The 22-year-old is quick, powerful and can track back as well as gets forward. If the move does materialise, it could be a solid addition for the Bundesliga heavyweights.
