While Chelsea are in a very poor run of form, they have successfully avoided a potential disaster: a midseason exit for Olivier Giroud.

Despite some rumours of interest from Serie A, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Frenchman is staying at the club, at least until the summer.

In-Form Olivier Giroud Staying at Chelsea

One of the Most Underrated Player in the Premier League

There are many players who could deserve this title, Joao Cancelo and Kieran Tierney among them, but Giroud is clearly one of the most underrated players in the league, if not the world.

Time after time, he continues to prove himself to Chelsea and Frank Lampard, and time after time, Lampard continues to drop him.

Despite playing significantly fewer games than many of the established stars at the club, Giroud ended 2020 as Chelsea’s top scorer. Whenever he starts, he usually scores, it’s that simple.

This season he has competed with Tammy Abraham for a starting role up top. While Abraham hasn’t been bad by any means, the 34-year-old is certainly more dependable than him at the moment. While the youngster’s development is important, the gap in quality is simply too big to ignore.

Then, of course, there’s Timo Werner, who fans and pundits certainly view as Chelsea’s main striker. However, Lampard has been playing him on the wing lately due to injuries, and his form has suffered.

Whatever the circumstances, Giroud has always delivered, while the others haven’t. He must be wondering how many times he has to prove himself to Lampard to finally get that starting role.

Constant Transfer Rumors

It seems to be the same situation every year.

Giroud doesn’t play for several weeks, so he’s unhappy and wants to leave in order to maintain his starting role for France. Then, for whatever reason, he gets a shot, and of course, he takes it.

Now, Lampard puts him back in the team, and the transfer speculation quiets down again. It happened last year, it happened this year, and it could well happen again next year.

The veteran striker is staying at Chelsea for the rest of the season, at the very least. But if he continues to play, there’s no reason why he wouldn’t extend his contract again.

Fans of the Blues will hope that this situation doesn’t happen again, and Olivier Giroud can continue to give his all for Chelsea next season.
