Tottenham Hotspur's Most Important Player

Son Heung-Min is truly sensational and is Tottenham Hotspur’s most important player.

He joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has since sky-rocketed to support Harry Kane and even surpass him in certain aspects.

Tottenham Transfer Rumours: Son Interest Builds

The latest gossip is that Real Madrid are interested in Son. Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur makes the claim.

He tweeted: “Zidane follows Heung-min Son closely. Real Madrid will soon meet with the Tottenham managers and get information about the player.”

There is always likely to be rumours such as these linking top-performing players with top clubs.

But Spurs would not be able to lose Son in a hurry. He’s far too valuable to the club.

Son’s Value

The South Korean is a crucial asset for Spurs.

He is a proven goalscorer, with the ability to win Puskas awards with his long driving runs.

But he is also able to link up with Harry Kane to launch deadly attacks against teams. Kane set up Son to smash home at the near post in the 3-0 win against Leeds United.

In doing so, the pair combined for the 13th time, equalling the record for goal combinations.

The current Tottenham set-up often involves long spells of defending and absorbing pressure. The onus is then on the attackers for a quick break and clinical finishing to punish the opposition.

Without the likes of Kane and Son, Tottenham would struggle. This is an argument regurgitated ad nauseaum. Any top side would struggle without their top goalscorers and playmakers.

Son is arguably the most important player in the modern era for Spurs and especially for this Mourinho side. This is largely down to his unrivalled skillset which combines pace, power, dribbling ability and clinical finishing on a consistent basis.

When Spurs are sitting back and need to counter, they need runners. Of course they have the likes of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura who are quick. But both have unable to prove that they can consistently finish chances and score goals.

In Son, Tottenham have the complete product who can easily go it alone to finish off a chance. He also has the vision and technical skill to set up his team-mates, especially Kane.

There is no denying Kane’s importance to the side; without his goalscoring, Spurs would massively struggle.

But Son has become much more than any Spurs fan would have hoped for. He is not just a back-up to Kane, he enhances his team-mate’s play. Their equalling of the record for combinations speaks volumes and they will soon break it.

Without Son’s pace and link-up play, Tottenham and Kane will miss out on goals.

One-Man Army

Tottenham have been accused of being a one-man army. The previous incarnation of Gareth Bale is the greatest example of this.

For a while, it was then Kane who Spurs desperately relied on.

Now, Spurs cannot be described as a one-man team based around Kane.

This is why Son can be considered as the most important player in this era. He has blossomed at the club to such an extent that he has reached the level of Bale scoring last-minute heroics to save Spurs of old.

In short, Sonny is the first player in this era to not just supplement top dog Kane, but to surpass him and push him on.
