Sunday’s Premier League match between Burnley and Fulham has been postponed after further positive COVID-19 cases at the London club. Positive tests had already seen their game against Tottenham Hotspur last week called off but now further cases have seen the trip to Turf Moor cancelled too.

Training Cancelled

Fulham were due to train this morning ahead of the trip to Lancashire tomorrow. However, it has now been reported by The Athletic that the players were told not to attend. The Cottagers have now seen their last two games cancelled and manager Scott Parker missed the draw with Southampton after a member of his household tested positive for the virus.

In addition, the club are investigating after striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was filmed with Crystal Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic on New Year’s Eve. Spurs players Giovanni Lo Celso, Sergio Reguillon and Erik Lamela were also pictured together despite the Tier 4 restrictions in place in London.

Parker Had Doubts About Game

In his press conference for the game, Fulham manager Parker expressed his doubts over whether the game would go ahead.

He said: “I do not know whether the Burnley game will go ahead.

“Those who tested positive are in isolation. We had a number of positive tests.

“I do not know whether the Burnley game will be played or not. We have retesting over the last few days. We are preparing as best we can to go to Burnley and get some points.”

Despite the rising number of cases, it does not appear that any suspension to the season is imminent.

In a statement after the Fulham v Spurs game was cancelled, the Premier League said: “The League continues to have confidence in its COVID-19 protocols to enable fixtures to be played as scheduled, and these protocols continue to have the full backing of Government.”
