Matthew Pennington has completed a loan switch to Shrewsbury Town, the club’s website have confirmed.

Pennington Featured for Everton
The 26-year old has penned a deal that will see him stay at the League One side until the end of the season.
The defender has featured seven times for his parent club Everton so far, having been with the club since he was 20-years old. He’s played more games for the club’s reserve side, playing 20 times for them.
Matthew Pennington Had EFL Experience Before Shrewsbury Town
However, Pennington is experienced in terms of EFL football and that comes down to various loan spells over his career so far. He featured for Hull City during their Championship relegation season and has also plied his trade for Ipswich Town and Leeds United on loan deals.
Before moving to Goodison Park, he also played for Coventry City, Walsall and Tranmere Rovers. It means that the player is not only well-versed in League One football – which can only be a positive for Shrewsbury – but has also had experience at higher levels.
‘Matthew Wants To Play Games’
Speaking about the signing, the club’s boss Steve Cotterill said: “Matthew wants to play games and he has experience in the Championship. He’s a good type that will get along well with our dressing room – I don’t have any worries about him integrating.
“We are quite light in the central defensive area and at right back. I felt it was an area we needed to address. Matthew can definitely fulfil that. He can play right-side centre back, left-side centre back and in the middle. Anywhere in the three, he fits.”
Shrewsbury are currently sat in 16th position in the League One table and they’ll be hoping that with some more shrewd acquisitions during the January transfer window like Pennington, they can push higher towards the top of the table in the second half of the campaign.
