The forward has been linked with a move away from the club for a little while now and the club have officially confirmed that the player has terminated his contract.

Garner has been with Wigan since 2018 and has bagged 13 goals and four assists in 37 starts.

However, with the club enduring financial difficulty, the striker has decided to move and try a new challenge with a new team elsewhere, which draws an end to his current Wigan Athletic club career.

Linked With a Move to APOEL Niscosia

The 32-year-old has had a career spanning various leagues in the EFL and even the SPL in Scotland. Now, it looks like his next team could be Cypriot side APOEL Niscosia, who are managed by Mick McCarthy.

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, Mick McCarthy and Garner could be set for a reunion in Cyprus having previously worked together at Ipswich Town.

Best Stint of Career Came With Preston

Arguably, Joe Garner’s best stint of his career came for the striker’s boyhood club Preston North End. The forward managed 60 goal contributions in 113 starts for the Lilywhites as the Championship side managed promotion to their current league via the League One Play-Offs.

Garner has also played for Rangers in Scotland where he gained a cult following from fans of the club. Despite only playing there for a season, he still bagged seven goals in 21 starts before his move to Ipswich, where he then managed 12 goal contributions in 29 starts for the Tractor Boys.

In terms of the player’s overall career, he has managed 400+ games so far and has managed nearly 150 goal contributions along the way. He’ll be hoping that he can add to those totals wherever his next team may be.
