La Real Lay Down Foundations for Future

Since taking the reigns at the San Sebastian outfit on Boxing Day 2018, Alguacil has taken charge of 90 matches with 40 wins, 25 draws and 25 defeats, a win ratio of 44.44%. He is Real Sociedad through and through. The former right-back started his playing career at the club and made 113 appearances during an eight-year spell. Moving to the touchline as youth manager in 2011 and the B team manager in 2014, he has earned his stripes with Sociedad. With his knowledge of the club, he has been able to promote many academy players such as Mikel Oyarzabal as well as foreign talents like Swedish striker Alexander Isak.

Real Sociedad Reward Loyalty

After a flying start to La Liga where the team were top of the table, Real Sociedad have gone through something of a blip recently. This includes no wins in eight games. However, it does also include six straight draws. Last time out, La Real were defeated 2-0 against the formidable Atlético Madrid. But, the team from the northern tip of Spain have seen enough signs of progress to reward their manager for another three years. Continuity is the focus ahead to build on the good work produced not just this season but also last season, where the club secured a sixth-place finish. This ensured a place in the Europa League where Real Sociedad recently progressed from their group alongside Napoli.

Blue and Whites Look for Silva Platter

The San Sebastian’s currently occupy third-place with 26 points. Nonetheless, it’s been a great start in spite of recent defeats. The side will look to star summer signing David Silva for inspiration and reinvigoration. His move from Manchester City has given them a new dimension, despite not being at 100% fitness. He and his manager, with his freshly inked contract, will look to arrest their slump. This next fixture is on New Year’s Eve in the Basque derby away at Athletic Bilbao.
