Defence a Key Area to Strengthen

Previous manager Gerhard Struber, who left to join New York Red Bulls earlier in the season, had already sought defensive reinforcements in the summer. Michal Helik came in from KS Cracovia while Callum Brittain joined from Milton Keynes Dons, both for undisclosed fees.

New boss Valerian Ismael looks to have bolstered the defence further with a signing that suggests he has a long-term vision for the club.

Prior Experience

Kitching has experience of both the National League and League Two having had two separate loan spell at Harrogate Town before joining Forest Green on a permanent deal.

He scored three times in ten appearances for Simon Weaver’s side at the back end of the 2017/18 season. He was then a regular in their 2018/19 campaign which saw them finish sixth in the table, netting four times in 39 outings.

After completing a permanent move away from Leeds to link up with Forest Green, Kitching was a regular in his first season at League Two level. He played 36 times in all competitions and has, so far this season, featured 15 times for Rovers.

He has been a key figure in the club’s rise to second place in League Two, but hasn’t appeared in their last four games, including Saturday’s success over Carlisle United.
