George Baldock Signs New Four-Year Deal With Sheffield United

Sheffield United have confirmed that defender George Baldock has agreed a new four-year deal with the club.

The news follows the announcement earlier in the week of fellow defender Rhys Norrington-Davies signing a new contract with the Blades.

Mainstay at the Back

Baldock, who is now into his fourth year with the Blades, has been a mainstay at the back since he joined.

The 27-year-old made the switch to Bramall Lane following a successful 2016/17 season with MK Dons. He made 34 appearances during his first season with the club, as United finished 10th in the Championship.

However, since then he has gone from strength to strength. After making 27 appearances in their promotion-winning 2018/19 campaign, Baldock featured in all 38 games last season as Chris Wilder’s side enjoyed a successful first season back in the Premier League.

Tying the attacking right-back down to a new deal is a huge statement from the Blades. He is a valuable commodity, and should they suffer relegation back to the Championship, he would have plenty of suitors in the Premier League.

What Was Said?

Speaking about his new deal to the official Sheffield United website, the defender expressed his delight and his eagerness to help the club out of their current relegation battle.

“I still believe we will get out of the situation we’re in and I’m absolutely delighted to sign a new deal,” he said.

“We all need to take individual responsibility on the pitch in the key moments, we’re not doing enough at the minute, but we’re fortunate that we have an opportunity to turn things around.

“We’ve got a good group in the dressing room, many who know what it takes to get out of these sticky patches, albeit not in the Premier League. I’m certainly full of confidence that we can put things right.

“I’ve had the best years of my career by far with the Blades, I’ve got a good relationship with the fans and I love living in the city, so now it’s about sorting out what’s happening on the pitch.”
