Another Potential Big Chelsea Signing

Defender David Alaba has refused to sign a new contract with current club Bayern Munich and reports from Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk suggest the defender could end up at Chelsea. It is worth noting that Bayern Munich say they have withdrawn the contract offer.

Falk also mentioned that French team Paris Saint Germain are ready to step in but the player is not keen on a move there.

Alaba would undoubtedly be a top-quality edition for any club and could be the deal of the summer. The current Bayern man can play a plethora of positions, providing that key versatility. Whoever does secure his signature will not only guarantee a world-class addition in defence but also midfield. If it is in fact Chelsea who secure the Austrian’s signature, Frank Lampard will have himself yet another incredible addition on a free, following the signing of Thiago Silva this summer.

January Pre Contract Agreement

David Alaba’s current contract ends in 2021 meaning he is free to talk to other clubs in January 2021 for a move in the summer. The 28-year-old has been with Bayern since 2008. He is no stranger to silverware either with nine Bundesliga titles to his name and two Champions League winners medals.

Alaba himself is still playing for Bayern and is the first choice for coach Hansi Flick. With contract talks ended by both sides, David Alaba looks certain to leave and if the reports pan out, Chelsea and London could be his next destination. As for Bayern, they look set to lose a key player with Alaba’s departure looking increasingly likely. A player of his ability going for free is never a positive for any club, but that looks the likely outcome.
