Youthful exuberance is driving the Dortmund team forward this season. 18-year-old Reyna is already playing a crucial role in the club’s development on the pitch, and joins the likes of Erling Braut Haaland and Jadon Sancho in an impressive and dangerous attack.
The player’s new contract rewards him for an impressive start to the new Bundesliga season. Reyna has scored one goal and provided four assists in seven matches for Dortmund so far this campaign.
The attacking midfielder, who was born in Durham in the United Kingdom, has also made his mark on the cup competitions this season, having scored in the DFB-Pokal and assisted in the Champions League for his side.
Reyna Determined to ‘Make More Memories’ in Dortmund
Having put pen to paper on his new contract, Reyna spoke to Borussia Dortmund’s social media channels in order to outline his goals for the future at the club.
“I’m really excited. I first came here when I was sixteen and it’s been great so far; I’m looking forward to making more memories here,” said the USA international.
“I’ve learned so much and will continue learning, [coming here has been] a huge step for my development and so far it’s just been perfect for me,” added the 18-year-old.
“The players and staff and everybody behind the scenes have helped so much. I think the opportunity they give to young players is something that stands out for me and all the other young players here. Also, obviously it’s a huge club that has ambitions to win titles and play in the biggest competitions, so it really offers everything that a young player could want and that’s the reason why I’m here.”

Dortmund manager Lucien Favre is pleased that Reyna has renewed his commitment to the club, and spoke in glowing terms of the player’s potential.
“It’s a great thing for Borussia Dortmund to have a player like Gio; he has a lot of potential. If he continues like this, then he’ll be an extremely important player for BVB throughout the future”, said the 63-year-old.
Along with Reyna, Sancho and Haaland, Dortmund also boast 17-year-old midfielder Jude Bellingham, who made his senior England debut in November’s international break.
