Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz Set to Miss Newcastle Trip

The Athletic reports that Chelsea are set to travel to Newcastle United without Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz. The pair spent this international period recovering from their respective problems, despite the former travelling with his national side.

Pulisic and Havertz have proved to be vital players for Frank Lampard‘s side this season and will be a big blow for a Chelsea side who are pushing for a place in the top four.

Chelsea Set to Travel to Newcastle United Without Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz

Christian Pulisic Set to Be Sidelined for Another Week at Least

Chelsea’s American winger is expected to face at least another week of recovery, as he recovers from a hamstring injury that was sustained before the Burnley game in October.

The Athletic also reports that the 22-year-old is suffering from a number of complications, and Chelsea are subsequently wary of rushing him back in. Pulisic suffered the same injury against Arsenal back in August, so it is expected that the medical team at Chelsea will be taking precautionary measures over the next few weeks, to ensure he returns to full fitness.

Pulisic did join up with the USA squad over the break, but there was never an intention of playing him. He also returned early to Chelsea to continue his rehabilitation at Cobham.

Kai Havertz Returns to Light Training

It seems that Havertz is closer to fully returning than Pulisic is, but will still be unavailable come the Newcastle fixture.

Before the international period, Havertz missed Chelsea’s last two games after being diagnosed with Covid-19. The German midfielder has been isolating ever since and consequently missed the international break.

Havertz has been given the all-clear to continue training, but given the nature of the illness, he has only been able to train lightly. He is unlikely to feature against the Magpies, but should be fit come mid-week.
