Marcus Rashford Hails Edinson Cavani Arrival at Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has hailed the arrival of Edinson Cavani, claiming Manchester United‘s deadline-day signing can help the club get back to winning trophies.

The Old Trafford side’s last taste of silverware came in 2017 when José Mourinho led the Red Devils to the Europa League title. Rashford, though, is confident that the Uruguayan’s arrival can help turn the tide in the red half of Manchester.

Rashford Excited to Play Alongside Cavani

Cavani’s arrival will increase competition for places among United’s forwards. However, Rashford is relishing that challenge and feels that a club like United must always have strength in depth in attacking areas.

“As a forward line, [Cavani’s arrival] is something to look forward to,” the 22-year-old told Sky Sports News.

“Hopefully he comes in and scores goals because he can definitely help us win games and points. He can be a massive player for us this season. To win two or three trophies in a season you need a squad; it’s not possible if you don’t have people who can score goals one week and the next week. It’s just not possible without three or four forwards in a team.”

“Growing up, United always had four or five forwards who could score goals at any time. The closer we get to that, the more strength we’ll have.”

Cavani Poised to Feature After Self-Isolation

Cavani – who became Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time record goalscorer during a trophy-laden spell in the French capital – has been unable to feature as yet for his new club following his arrival as a free agent.

Saturday’s win over Newcastle United, a game in which Rashford got on the scoresheet, came on the final day of the 33-year-old’s period of self-isolation in line with government coronavirus measures.

Cavani has just trained with his new teammates and could be in line to feature against the side he has just left. Manchester United have been drawn to face PSG in the Champions League, and make the trip to the Parc des Princes on October 20.
