REPORT: Luton Town Express Interest in Bristol City’s Joe Morrell

Joe Morrell Luton

Luton Town are closing in on a move for Bristol City midfielder Joe Morrell. As per a Twitter post from Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, that Luton are near in agreeing a fee for the 23-year-old.

The Welsh international has yet to feature for the Robins this season and with increasing competition in their midfield, breaking into the first seems rather unlikely at this point of time.

Luton Town Target Bristol City and Wales Midfielder Joe Morrell

Luton Town Target Joe Morrell is a Superb Talent

Despite, not getting the opportunities at Ashton Gate thus far, a move away with guaranteed game time would certainly benefit Morrell. Last season, the 23-year-old starred in a Lincoln City side, where he went on to make 32 appearances, scoring once. His impressive displays saw the midfielder pick up the club’s Player of the Year award.

Morrell has also dazzled on the international stage too. He has made nine appearances since September 2019, becoming an integral part of the Welsh squad.

However, a slight injury at the start of the 2020/21 campaign hampered the Welshman’s chances of breaking into Bristol City’s starting XI. Morrell’s chances of first-team action at Ashton Gate has been further damaged by the club’s impeccable start to the season. Four wins from four league games has shot the Robins to the top of the Championship table.

Another Potential Welsh International for the Hatters

Under the supervision of Welsh manager Nathan Jones, Luton Town have targeted a number of Welsh internationals this transfer window. The Town have already added Welsh duo Tom Lockyer from Charlton and Rhys Norrington-Davies from Sheffield United to their squad. The Hatters have also been linked with Gwion Edwards from Ipswich Town and Jazz Richards, formerly of Cardiff City.

Morrell would be a signing of intent for the Hatters, who narrowly avoided relegation last season. Like his current side, Luton have started the season positively with nine points from the first four games. The addition of Morrell would certainly bolster the Town’s options in midfield, whilst adding a further creative spark in attacking scenarios.
